Have you ever thought that there needs to be something more than just worship, but with a lot less frustration than volunteering for a committee!! Well, it’s here, because that is what Gathering Place is all about. People want a challenging experience that is low commitment, a fun time that’s spiritual, and a focus that results in action. On Wednesdays we will be offering a brand new program that will open up our church and provide a new dimension to our faith journey. Come out and see, I can’t explain it here all at once, but you will find it new and invigorating. For example, the way it all works is people working in small groups on a project or a plan for the Base. It all depends upon what direction people want to go and what things need to be discussed. For instance some people might want to work together planning a special Worship service, while others may want to help shape ideas for Community Service projects. A small group may just need to gather for Prayer. While one of our Church committees may need some extra time to work on something or even want to involve others in pulling things together. The chapel only provides the time and the place for each small group to gather whether it be a regular group that plans to meet here and network with others, or individuals who want to come out and join in with something that interests them. It's really all up to the community to decide what goes on. There are no pre-set groups, just people with interests and ideas who want to work with others and get some things out on the table and moving. HERE IS AN IDEA OF HOW IT WORKS: One suggestion is to start talking about Gathering Place after worship or during the week on the phone as a place to meet and continue discussing ideas and forming action groups. There are lots of things going on at the Chapel, and we need to reach out to one another. It works best if two or three people decide what they would like to see happening at the Chapel and show up with enthusiasm that will attract others who are gathering. Starting at 7:00pm we meet in the Chapel to find out what ideas or groups are happening and to break up into the small groups. At 8:30pm we will all come together in the Chapel for a time of worship before going home. The idea is simple, come out whenever you can and as often as you can. There is nothing to register for and no weekly commitments to keep. Once we are started we will look at hosting some groups in people's homes and possibly adding groups with a later start – maybe following the worship at 8:30pm just to give people more time to arrive. There is a possibility of making it all ages, or holding sessions over at the gym. Does a pot luck supper now and then sound good? Gathering Place is a new concept but one with a very old tradition. |
